Four-color Theophanies: 10 comic characters who have met God
Over at SF Gospel, a list of 10 comic characters who have met God. Click here to read about the theophanies of Dr. Strange, Cerebus, Jesse Custer, and more.
I'd never contemplated what would happen if God and Superman had an encounter. Wonder if the Lord knows about green kryptonite or if Superman know's about that resurrection capacity...
Just stumbled on this blog a few days ago...I'm a traditionalist Catholic and onetime Marvel addict.
It's sad to see that so many of those portrayals of God are rather negative.
After 20+ years of watching and reading, I can't help but believe that the mainstream comics biz is about the most godless industry out there.
I halfway wish this was still the 60s, so Ennis and his worthless ilk would be peddling mimeographed underground rubbish in alleyways instead of being promoted as some of mainstream comics' top talents...
And Larsen's snide John Lennon-ish comment about his shoddy Dragon series being 'more pouplar than God' is pretty saddening. Used to love his old Spider-man books when I was younger...
I don't even read new comics anymore, used to love Marvel but they got progressively more sleazy and anti-religious...Can't stand any of them. Just into the old reprints now, like the Marvel Essentials stuff.
The comic shows have gotten worse and worse, almost to the point where I debate even going to them. Seems like half of em you're just surrounded by porn, some of which barely distinguishable from the mainstream releases.
Too bad today's sludge writers can't set aside their dull old pro-gay, anti-Catholic prejudices and just write some good, intelligent, fun stories that one isn't ashamed to have in the house.
Just my view on the state of new comics...Please don't waste time flaming me.
